The stoning of Soraya M.

There are times when a film moves you. It may move you to tears, laughter, and even anger. Less often are there films that move you to activism. This can only be done with a story so compelling and compassionately told that you want to either find all the research you can get your hands on or run and join an organisation to fight for something.

Today, I found a film that has done just that. The Stoning of Soraya M. is a film based on the true story of Soraya Manutchehri and a book of the same title written by Freidoune Sahebjam. As Sahebjam, an Iranian-born and French-based journalist, was traveling through Iran reporting on the “Iranian Revolution”, he came across a woman that old him of a crime so hideous that he could not just turn his back on it. I can’t seem to get my hands on the book for some reason, but I will as soon as possible! You should also do the same.

As you can probably tell from previous posts, I watch a great deal of films. I guess you can say I am a film geek/junkie. Over the last year, I have seen at least 150 films (old ones and new). However, there are very few that stir something inside me like The Stoning of Soraya M. did. I don’t even know if I have proper words for the awesomeness that is this story!

I won’t say anything more. You’ll just have to go find the film; which is available on iTunes and Netflix. If you aren’t moved by this story, then you HAVE NO HEART!
