It seems that the first ten years of the new millennium has gone the way of the T-Rex. We have seen our world break down, change and grow. Life has been one hell of a roller coaster ride this past decade. But one event at the end of 2009 has turned my entire world, and the rest of my life, upside down.
On December 19, 2009, I received a phone call that will forever be seared into my very being. My Step-father called to tell me that one of my brothers had died. His name was Evan James and he was the best friend, rival, and of course brother a girl could have. His twin brother, Jordan, along with my step-father were the ones to find him still in his bed that afternoon. And as far as the medical examiner can tell, his death has been ruled “Undetermined.”
The flight back home was the longest I have ever experienced. I could only think about my family and the new gigantic hole that it how holds. Evan was silly, fun to be around, smart and an all-around good 16 year old kid. He was one of my closest friends, despite the big age difference. He was my brother.
I thought I could sit here and write a great deal about the Life of Evan, but it’s still too fresh and shocking to do so. It has been less than a week since his funeral and my brain still refuses to believe this is all real. With that said, Oy To The Vey will be taking a hiatus for an indefinite amount of time. The loss of my brother has made me want to re-evaluate a great deal of things in my life.
To end this, I want to send out a dedication to Evan and my family…
Evan, you will always be my ‘Little Big Brother’. You made me smile, and at times you made me cry. Overall, you made me happy and proud to call you BROTHER. You will be missed unlike anyone can know. Find Grandma and Aunt Helen up there, I know they will take care of you and you can take of them. We all Love you.
With a very sad heart, I say…
Oy. To. The. Vey.
